Milestone Day for our family

Today is day # 266 of Madison being a member of our family. This is a milestone because she has now officially been with us longer than she was without us. She was 265 days old when we became a forever family on 10/28/07. We are so thrilled to have the blessing of being a family of 3 and thank God everyday for our daughter.

The Great Milk Showdown

While Matt was away, I tried to take Maddy's milk sippy cup away (which was essentially her first transition cup from a bottle so it's pretty much like a bottle). She likes to pull on the rubber sippy part & one day while we were settling in for nap time with a book & her cup she pulled the top right out with her teeth spilling milk all over me, her and the rocking chair. I threw the cup away telling her 'all done.'

Would you believe that for the next 5 days she refused milk in any cup! I tried the 3 different styles of cups we have for her and she would have nothing to do with them if they contained milk (water & juice were fine, but milk no way!) Being concerned that she hadn't had any milk in almost a week, I finally broke down and bought her another Nuk cup like the one I threw away. Wouldn't you know that little turkey picked it up right away and drank every drop of milk from it!

Maddy 1 Mommy 0 on the great milk showdown, this will not be the last of it though.

Dragon Boat Festival and Birthday Party

We had a busy day on Saturday. We met up with the MN Red Thread Group in the morning to take in some of the sights, sounds & smells at the Annual Dragon Boat fest. In the afternoon we headed to a double header 1st birthday party for 2 of Maddy's friends/ God sister. It was a splash party with 2 little pools & a Slip n Slide. Maddy loves water so she had an awesome time and was pretty upset with mommy when it came time to get out of the water because she was shivering so badly.

Here are a few photos, we managed to get a group photo which was a big feat considering all of the adults, kids & multiple cameras in different directions.

Squeaky Shoes video test

Maddy has discovered squeaky shoes recently, so anytime I have her closet open & see shes them she has to have them. I have never tried video before, so here goes a little test:

Out and about

Yesterday Maddy & I met my mom and nephew, River, in Stillwater at Teddy Bear Park. If you have never been there, I would strongly suggest you go. What a cool place that the city of Stillwater has put together for kids. It's free & there is a decent sized parking lot right across the street (which if you know anything about downtown Stillwater parking can be a rare commodity to find).

Today we went to visit my friend Vinny in Isanti & had lunch with her & her kids. She made us some yummy curry (and we got a little to go- thanks Vinny!) The best part of our visit for Maddy was the kittens they had. They were the cutest little 3 month old kitties and I had to try very hard to resist taking one home. Maddy got so excited as this week her main new word is 'cat.'

Here are a few pictures including Matt & Mike ready to roll on their trip. They are touring in the Black Hills & went to see Wind Cave and Mt Rushmore today.

At home this week & a referral congrats

I am on week #2 of vacation, yeah!!! It's so nice to have my first time off since going back to work after maternity leave. This week Matt is going on a motorcycle trip so I get to spend some quality time w/Maddy. We have a few fun things planned along with our town's local festival (Whiz Bang Days) Thurs thru Sun. The highlight of our week will be meeting up with our Red Thread friends at the Dragon Boat Festival this weekend.

We are so excited for our Red Thread friends that got referrals today! Congrats to Dan & Karen, you can see their beautiful baby here: www.youbelong.net/thehermans

Also congrats to Troy & Chris (I don't believe they have a blog).

Week at the Lake

We just got back from a week at Yellow Lake in WI. Matt's whole family came & it was a lot of fun. We basically took over the resort for the week. Maddy had a lot of fun playing with her cousins ranging in ages 3 weeks on up. She learned a few new words (including 'sparkly' after watching the fireworks, but it sounds more like 'sparky') and also learned a few new behaviors that we will need to spend a little time unlearning (if you catch my drift).

During the week Maddy got to go on her first boat ride, see her first fireworks & celebrate her first Independence Day as an American citizen. Tonite she was so tired that she fell asleep eating dinner in her highchair. She was in bed before 6:30.

I put a little slide show together of our fun week.
